Merging organic elegance with digital precision
Course ARH 659 - Digital Generated Morphology
Instructor Benjamin Rice
This 3D model takes inspiration from coral reefs, blending organic and geometric elements into a cuboid form. The structure, created through 3D printing, captures the intricate, flowing networks of coral reefs while maintaining a structured and precise cuboid shape. At the heart of the model is a laser-cut eggcrate structure that provides stability and serves as the core framework, highlighting the balance between natural fluidity and precision in fabrication.
By combining 3D printing with eggcrate techniques, the design emphasizes harmony between nature’s elegance and modern digital fabrication. This model showcases how natural ecosystems can inspire architectural innovation, demonstrating the beauty and utility of coral reefs through cutting-edge design processes.
